Helen Marie (Franz) Ball, 76, San Antonio, lost her battle with brain, lung and bone cancer Saturday, December 20, 2014. Helen Marie, born December 10, 1938 to Helen O. (Smith) (d. 1999) and George F. (d. 1986) in San Antonio, TX joined sibling Edgar R. Franz (d. 1981) who is survived by three children: Ross, Lisa and Susan. Helen graduated from Alamo Heights in 1954 and attended Trinity University.
Helen married Scott Rasmussen in 1957. The couple had one son, Scott Wade in 1962. Helen later married to Davis F. "Doc" Ball January 13, 1972 at Randolph AFB. The couple has one daughter, Elizabeth A."Liz" Ball Ozuna.

Helen is survived by husband "Doc"; son, Scott Ball and wife Elizabeth, their 3 children: Alexis Rene Ball Jackson and husband, Jay, Whitney Lynn Ball, and Alyssa Lee; daughter, "Liz" Ozuna and husband George, their 2 children, Marcos and wife Tamara, their son, Mateo Abelardo, and Lena Ozuna, husband Sean Anderson, and their son, Donovan Patrick.

Helen began her professional life when she entered the civil service at Clark AFB, Philippines. She worked at Webb AFB, and finally at Randolph AFB. In her 35 years with the Civil Service, Helen held positions including Secretary, Chief of Camera Ready Print Products, first female Copy Writer for Women's Recruitment Advertising, first Federal Women's Program Coordinator for Randolph AFB, first Equal Employment Opportunity Officer, ATC Public Affairs & Speech Writer/Special Projects Officer for ATC Commander Community Affairs, and Public Affairs Recruitment Manager for USAF Office of Personnel Management. Helen's commitment and outstanding work allowed her to rise from GS2 to GM13 at retirement. In addition to her official duties, Helen developed and presented programs focused on women's issues in locations around the United States and in Panama. She was creative director for a series of travel audio productions entitled, "Ride with Me." Helen served on the Board of Directors for Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union for over ten years.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Main Post "Gift" Chapel, 1605 Wilson Way, Ft. Sam Houston, TX 78234. Burial will take place at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the San Antonio Animal Defense League.
