M. PANKRATZ, 76, DIES IN THE CITY EARLY SUNDAY
Pioneer Merchant of Manitowoc To Be Buried Wednesday, Was
One Time Co. Board Member
An operation, resorted to ten days ago, in a final effort to save the
life of Michael Pankratz, 76, pioneer merchant and county official,
proved futile and yesterday morning at 6:45 o'clock death relieved
his sufferings at the Holy Family hospital. While the death was not
unexpected to members of his immediate family owing to his critical
illness, the news of it proved a shock to many friends who were not
aware of his serious condition.
Born in Bochmerwald, Austria, on March 25, 1853. Mr. Pankratz came
to the states and to Manitowoc at the age of 14. He grew to manhood in
this city and for a number of years was head sawyer at the old Burger
Brothers Shipbuild Company and from 1899 to (Photo)1919 was engaged
in the grocry business on Washington street. He has since live a retired life.
On June 18, 1874, he married Miss Emma Dusold, who with three children,
seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, surive him.
Ex-Member County board
Mr Pankratz was active in political and fraternal circles, serving as a member
of the county board and being active in the St. Boniface and Holy Name
societies of the St. Boniface church.
In addition to his widow, his immediate survivors are two daughters, Mrs.
Louise Fullmer, making her home with her parents here, Mrs. Emma Zweidinger
of Cleveland, Ohio, one son, Alex of Waukesha, and a brother, John, at
Marshfield. Mrs. Zweldinger was here at the time of her fatheer's death. The
seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held from the St. Boniface church at 9 o'clock
Wednesday morning and the solemn high mass will be under the direction
of Rev. Joseph Becker, a grandson, living at Menasha, as celebrant. Interment
will take place at Calvary cemetery.
Mr. Pankratz was widely known throughout Manitowoc county and universally
esteemed for his high character and personality.

Well Known Couple of City Celebrate 55th Anniversary
Yesterday, June 18, marked the fifty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. Michael Pankratz, 2011 Washington street, and the aged couple observed the
day in a quiet manner.
Mrs. Pankratz, who is eighty-two years of age, was born in this city and has made her
home here her entire life. Mr. Pankratz came here from Austria in 1867 and for twenty-four
years was employed at the old Burger Shipyards, after which time he conducted a grocery
store on Washington street up until 1918 when he retired. He is seventy-six years of age.
Three children were born to the couple they being, Mrs. Louise Fullmer, this city, A.C. Pankratz,
Waukesha, and Mrs. Emma Zweldinger of Cleveland, Ohio. There are sixteen grandchildren,
and three great grandchildren.
In spite of their advanced age, the couple enjoy good health and the full use of all their faculties.
