POW/MIA/KIA Vietnam era naval officer. More than 37 years after Navy Lieutenant Commander J. Forrest G. Trembley failed to return from a bombing mission over North Vietnam, his remains came home. A Spokane native and grandson of Washington Supreme Court Justice James M. Geraghty, Trembley was shot down by Chinese fighters August 21, 1967, after his A-6A aircraft strayed into Chinese airspace. On August 21, 1967, four aircraft launched from the USS Constellation with the assignment to strike the Duc Noi rail yard four miles north of Hanoi. The aircraft flew from Attack Squadron 196, based on board the carrier. He was 26. Trembley's father died in 1974, and his mother in 1984. He is survived by his wife, who remarried in 1974; a son, Forrest Trembley Ehlinger; and a sister, Catherine. Burial services were held at Arlington on April 1, 2005.
