BETTY A. SUFANA Hobart, Indiana Age 81, a long time Hobart resident, passed away at the Care Center at Hartsfield Village, Munster, on Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Betty was born in Mt. Vernon, IN on April 1, 1925. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1943, and earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Indiana University in 1947. Betty was affiliated with Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority at IU. She was a home economics teacher in Spencer, IN, Cuba Missouri, and a substitute teacher in Hobart, IN. She also worked for Lazzaro Glass in Gary, and in the Hobart City Clerk's Office. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobart, and she participated in the Women's Circles. When her children were at home, Betty served as a den mother for Hobart Boy Scouts and assisted with Girl Scouts. Betty enjoyed watching baseball games, following IU basketball, shopping at outlet malls, working jigsaw puzzles and traveling throughout the United States. She was an animal lover, seamstress and gardener. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ray C. Sufana, and sister, Catherine Williams Broyles, brother, Numa Williams, and parents, Dr. Numa and Anna Smith Williams. She is survived by 3 children: Charles R. (Karen) Sufana of Munster, Thomas R. Sufana of Lowell, Betty A. Sufana of Lexington, KY; 2 grandchildren: Michael Sufana of Redondo Beach, CA, Julie Sufana of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Sufana of Portage; brothers-in-law, Robert Sufana of Portage, Gene Allen Sufana of New York City, NY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, Hobart, IN, Rev. Jonathan Gosser of the First United Methodist Church of Hobart, officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends may visit with the family at Burns Funeral Home, Hobart, on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
