William Herald Grinstead, 81, of Danville, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born April 18, 1924, in rural Danville, he was the son of Herald and Vada Parrott Grinstead. He first married Gerry Baker. On June 8, 1967, he married Irene Glick. She died July 30, 1998.

Mr. Grinstead was a lifelong farmer. He also ran a sow leasing business.

He was a Danville High School graduate and a World War II Navy veteran. He loved animals.

Survivors include one son, Herb Grinstead of Danville; one daughter, Linda Messer of Danville; four grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Wanda Nelson of Danville; two stepsons, Bob Glick and Denny Glick; one stepdaughter, Mary Horton; and many step-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

There will be a private family service for Mr. Grinstead. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and burial will be at a later date.

Memorials have been established for Danville Rescue Unit and Fort Madison Home Health Care.
