Cpl. U.S. Army, Vietnam War-Cpl. was killed in action by small arms fire on 10-16-1969 while serving as a {11B10} Rifleman with the 2nd Platoon of Co. B of the 3rd Battalion, of the 1st Infantry Regiment, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. Cpl. Heilig started his tour of Vietnam on April 24, 1969.

He is the son of Mr. Robert F. Sr. & Mrs. Betty Heilig of 1231 North 48th Street in East Louis, Illinois. Cpl. Heilig did his basic training at Fort Ord, California, and his AIT also at Fort Ord.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campiagn Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal.
