Eugene Edward Bays, 74, of Leon went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 17, 2014 following a long illness. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Marine Corps and Army. He retired from Union Carbide Corp. with 25 years of service. He was a strong and loving man to his whole family, and was loved and will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Means Bays, and daughter, Eugenea Lisa Bays Elswick. He is survived by daughter Phyllis Marie Bays of Buffalo; granddaughters, Carol Jean Whittington Campbell and husband Carl Allen Campbell, both of Buffalo, and Lisa Marie Elswick of Saint Albans; great-granddaughters, Shannon Nicole White, Denise Marie White, and Emily Grace White, all of Buffalo; sisters, Linda Massinggale of Saint Albans, Carol Roberts of Saint Albans, and Beulah “Liz” Withrow of North Charleston; as well as 3 nieces and 8 nephews, and several grandnephews and grandnieces.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Raynes Funeral Home Buffalo with Pastor Paul Cogar officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by James E. Marshall Post 187, American Legion, Winfield will follow in the Bays Family Cemetery, Leon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at the funeral home.
