Sarah (Loughry) Ryan was the second child born to Dan and Mary (Doonan) Loughry in Grannagh Mills, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The family lived in Grannagh Mills until all of the children were grown and made a final move to Kilmacow. Sarah met James Francis Ryan there and were married on June 1, 1875. Her husband had inherited a farm from an uncle and where they made their homestead. Their children were an infant daughter who died soon after birth in Aug 1877, Mary Josephine, born August 15, 1878, and Michael Joseph born on November 16, 1879.

James and Sarah emigrated to America and he passed on the farm to his sister Alice and her husband James Freyne. The family arrived in New York on May 24, 1880 on the "City of Chester" and traveled to Chicago, Illinois to settle. On February 4, 1884, daughter Sarah Rose was born. Sarah developed tuberculosis that year and fought a tough battle for three years before she passed away in Mercy Hospital in Calumet City.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband James, three small children, Mary, Joseph, and Sarah, brothers James and Francis Loughry of Waltham, Massachusetts, Joseph and Patrick Loughry of Chicago, and sister Alice Loughry of County Kilkenny, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her brothers John (surviving wife Catherine), Daniel (surviving wife Catherine), and sister-in-law Johanna Mackey Loughry. She is also survived by nephews Andrew, Daniel, John, Daniel, and niece Mary and many cousins.

Sarah is my great great Grandmother.
