Milton Legrande Arnold
COLUMBIA – Milton Legrande Arnold, 92, of Columbia passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014. Born July 1, 1922, in Chapin, SC, he was a son of the late Arthur and Georgia Frick Arnold. Mr. Arnold was a Lutheran by faith and a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He retired from WJB Dorn VA Hospital after 25 years of faithful service. Following his retirement, he continued to serve the community with repair work on small engines. He and his family enjoyed extensive travel. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he was a huge Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Mr. Arnold served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in New Guinea as an Airman Apprentice in the Searchlight Battalion. He participated in an Honor Flight in May 2013, and was very proud of his service to his country.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Frances Chapman Arnold; daughter, Arlene Hunt Carrigg (James) of Chapin; sister, Louise Brown; brother, Carroll Arnold; grandchildren, Kimberly Hunt McCraw and Matthew Todd Hunt; and great-grandson, Dylan Anthony Hunt.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Mertie Chapman and Anna Julia Kelly.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Christ the King Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Reverend Mark Buchan and Reverend Luther Swicegood will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
The family would like to thank the caregivers from Lutheran Hospice for their loving care.
