In 1969 he moved to B.C. and changed careers, working as a millwright in the plywood plant until he retired in 1985.
In 1989 he moved to Smithers, B.C. and managed a trailer court until 1998 when he moved to the Okanagan. Until he departed March 29, 2011,
Steve was well-known for his short fuse when things didn’t go his way. At work he was known as “Sledgehammer Smith” if it was broken and couldn’t be fixed he’d say “get the sledgehammer, we’ll get it out.”
Steve loved to snowmobile and hunt in his younger years. He was very active in the 100 Mile House Snowmobile Club in the late 70s and 80s.
