One of the oldest pioneer settlers of Shawnee twp & one of the most prominently known residents of Allen Co. He was one of the most energetic & successful farmers in the county & leaves a large & valuable estate.The immediate cause of death was asthma & old age. He was born in Cridersville, Ohio and was the son of Henry & Elizabeth Spyker, who were pioneers of Pickaway Co, Ohio.
He had 3 brothers & 4 sisters (Mrs Elizabeth Vanatta)
Married Sarah Weaver, Dec 13, 1835 (daughter of Jacob & Elizabeth Weaver)
8 children-Martin, Allen, Lewis, Jacob, Henry, Mary(Frances Mohler), Elizabeth (Francis Mohler) & a baby.
Married Margaret Losch, Aug 13, 1851 (daughter of Michael & Eva Losch)
12 children-John, Joel, Effie (D Tippie), Mrs W G Cummings,Mrs Adele Stebleton & 8 others predeceased.
He was a member of the Methodist church, was a staunch Democrat & a man with whom business or social relations were always a pleasure.
