Earl George Hagler, 83, of Concord, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 at the home. Born Oct. 8, 1922 in Mecklenburg County, he was a son of the late George and Nellie Simpson Hagler. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Hagler served in World War II. An assemblyman at Ronson Hydraulics, he previously worked for the City of Concord and Kayser Roth Hosiery in Concord.

Mr. Hagler was a lifelong member of DAV Chapter 27 and served as a deacon and trustee of Wil Mar Park Baptist Church for many years. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his family, working in his garden and bird watching from his front porch. He was a devoted husband, a very loving father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him for his gentle manner, friendly smile and sense of humor.

Mr. Hagler was married to Sarah Kathryn Trull Hagler, who preceded him in death on Jan. 18,1998. Stepson Billy Ray Porter; sisters, Dorothy Spears, Nolin Pope, Lonie Pope and Edith Long; and brother, Jennings Hagler, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley Hagler Ramsey and husband, Larry, of Mooresville, Debbie Hagler Miller and husband, Randy, of Statesville; stepson, Clyde H. Porter and wife, Ann, of Concord; sisters, Madge Little, Massie Theiling and Edna Yandle; brother, Joe Hagler; grandchildren, Wendy Burkhouse, Lorie Young, Susie Fulcher, Billy Porter, Beverly Porter and Pam Porter and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Wil-Mar Park Baptist Church in Concord with Rev. Tom Smith and Rev. Earl Barringer officiating. Burial followed at Carolina
Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Hartsell Funeral Home served the family.
