Obituary from the Belvidere Apollo 4.14.1910 page 4:
LAST OF 7 BROTHERS
Howell Mutchler, Who Made Brilliant Record in Civil War Dies in Phillipsburg.
Howell Mutchler, brother of the late Assemblyman Samuel B. Mutchler, and the last of seven(or eight) stalwart brothers who made brilliant records for themselves during the Civil War, died at his home, Delaware Park, two miles from Phillipsburg, at 7:46 o'clock Saturday night. He was stricken with paralysis last week, while apparently in good health, and his condition grew steadily worse to the end. He was 64 years of age and followed closely in death, and at about the same age his brothers Captain Wesley Mutchler and Samuel B. Mutchler.
The deceased was a stone mason by trade, but like several of his brothers, became general foreman on construction work for many years. Mr. Mutchler was born at Harmony, and when a young man he and his six brothers volunteered their services at the opening of the Civil War and were soon in the thickest of the fight. Howell Mutchler was serving in the ranks when the war ended. He was a member of John G. Tolmie Post, G. A. R., of Phillipsburg. He is survived by his wife and two daughters: Mrs. Fred. A. Barton,of Trenton, and Mrs. Helen M.Cole, of Easton. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with the G. A. R in charge and interment was made in the Phillipsburg cemetery
A son of the deceased met an accidental death a little more than a year ago, as did Frederick Mutchler, a son of the late S. B. Mutchler,a few months age, making the fifth death in the immediate family within two years.
