JERI LYNN JONES, 67, of Butler died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, in The Laurels of DeKalb Health Care Center, Butler.

He retired in 2010 from the Walmart Distribution Center, Garrett, where he had worked for 10 years. Previously, he had worked for many years at Commercial Shearing and Therma-Tru in Butler, and at Messenger Corp. in Auburn. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1965 to October 1967, as a tank operator in Germany.

In retirement, he enjoyed researching local history, spending many hours at the Butler Public Library. He was an avid fan of the Fort Wayne Komets, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Eastside Blazers.

Over the years, he assisted the high school by operating the scoreboard at football and softball games, and kept books for the boys and girls basketball teams. He umpired youth baseball games for many years, and was a past commissioner of the Butler Youth League baseball program.

He was born July 17, 1945, in DeKalb County to Daniel Earl and Golda Mae (Easterday) Jones. They preceded him in death. He married Carol Ann Stark on Feb. 26, 1966, at the First Christian Church, Auburn, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son of Butler; and one sister, Natalie Danielle “Winkie” Obendorf of Butler. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jon W. Jones, in 1985, and by his stepfather, Robert South Sr., in 1975.

There will be no calling. Friends and family members are invited to share fun stories and fond memories of Jeri at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Butler United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kevin Marsh officiating.
