Stephen P. Meis, 27, Catherine, Kan., died Thursday afternoon from burns received in an oil field accident on a lease about 15 miles northwest of Russell.

He was a truck driver for R. C. Williams, Inc.

Born Oct. 30, 1949 in Russell County, he attended schools at Catherine, was graduated from the former St. Joseph’s Military Academy, Hays, and was a veteran of serviced in the US Army.

He was a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church.

Meis was married Sept. 22, 1972 in Hays to the former Mary Stecklein. She survives him.

Other survivors are a daughter, Stephanie also of the home, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Meis, Catherine.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Catherine’s Church, Catherine. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish wake is at 8 p.m. tonight at Brock’s North Hill Chapel, Hays. Friends may call at the chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. today and on Saturday until the hour of the service.
