John H. Lane , 79, of Fruitland Park, FL passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014, surrounded by his family. John was born on August 10, 1935 in Zephryhills, FL. He was raised on a farm where his love for gardening and growing his own vegetables began. He moved to Leesburg in 1959 and began his career as “John the Barber.” He retired from his own shop in 2006 and then missed barbering and went back to cutting hair part time. John had a love for music, gardening, wood working, and lived to hear the sound of all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play. He was an active member of South 14th Street Church of Christ. He was a simple man who got his enjoyment in life from his home and family. He never missed a chance to share the love of Jesus. He met and married his wife of 41 years, Frances L. Lane, in 1973. John was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Deborah Lepore. He is survived by his wife Fran, daughters Nancy Moreland and Pamela Sharpe, a son David Shank, 10 grandchildren: LaDonne Merritt, Stephanie Marrs, Christina Butts, Shafter Nave, John Aspinwall, Kelly Garland, Summer Shank, Harrison Sharpe, Brian Shank, and Dottie Pratt. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind 1 sister Ruby Ottelin. John was a devoted and loving husband, father, Papa, Poppy, brother, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed BUT lives on in each one of us whose lives he touched. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Beyers Funeral Home in Lady Lake, Florida.
