Richard George Abbott, Jr., 88, of Concord passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 28, 2014.

Richard was born in Bow, N.H. on August 24, 1926 to William and Sara (Smith) Abbott. A lifelong resident of the Concord area, he attended local schools and graduated from Concord High. Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country. Several years later he met and married Leona Locke and they began a family. Richard was a loyal Red Sox fan who enjoyed cooking and hunting and, later in life after blindness set in, enjoyed listening to religious programming on TV, particularly Mother Angelica and Charles Stanley.

The most important thing to Richard was family; whether it was time spent with his siblings, caring for his ailing parents at the end of their lives, or involving himself in all of his grandchildren's activities.

Richard is survived by 5 children, Roxanne Abbott, Patty Yee, Richard Abbott Jr., Billy Abbott and Eleanor Abbott; his sister, Gladys Labrie; 7 grandchildren, Jacob Abbott, Lucy Abbott, Sara Yee, Joshua Abbott, Stephanie Yee, Jonathan Abbott and Ashley Abbott; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Leona (Locke) Abbott in 2005 as well as his brothers, Lawrence, Billy, Walter and Rodney, and his sisters, Alice, Faith, Hope and Charity.

A brief service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9th in the chapel of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's name may be made to support the NH Association for the Blind, please send to McGreal Sight Center, 25 Walker Street Concord, N.H. 03301 or online atsightcenter.org - or to the Center for Cardiac Care program at Concord Hospital.
