"John C.E. Moser Sr was born in Saxony Germany... He was a farmer and a distiller. He came to America in 1836 and stayed in New York for one year, then went back to Germany. In 1838 he came back to America bringing his eldest son John C.E. Jr. They came west to Missouri and John Sr. bought land in Cooper County near Booneville (this land is now in Moniteau County.) He also bought a farm near the Moniteau Creek. In 1846 the rest of his family came to America and Joined him. They had four children. [Caroline, the youngest, was Mrs. Fred Herrnleben] In 1850 Johns Sr. & Jr. started to the state of California. On the plains the son died. The father went on to California and was a gold miner there. He never went back to his home in Missouri as he died in 1857 and was buried in California State."
