ELDERLY MOUNT PLEASANT COUPLE KILLED IN PLUNGE


An elderly Mount Pleasant couple plunged down a 240 feet embankment to their deaths sometime Wednesday, July 30 when a load of wood they were hauling down from the canyon behind the Mount Pleasant power plant slid on the wet dugway and tumbled down the canyon wall.


Found dead at the bottom of the drop on Thursday, July 31 were Athol MADSEN, 74, and his wife, Denna, 73.

OBITUARY OF ATHOL A. AND DENNA M. MADSEN


MOUNT PLEASANT, Sanpete County -- Funeral Service3s for Athol A. and Denna Mower MADSEN, who died Wednesday July 30, 1980 in a truck accident in Pleasant Creek Canyon will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Mount Pleasant First Ward Chapel. Several relatives live in this area.


Athol was born January 17, 1906 in Mount Pleasant to Alonzo and Laura Bennett MADSEN. He married Denna MOWER in Manti on July 23, 1929. He was a farmer.


Denna was born November 15, 1907 in Oak Creek, Sanpete County to Sidney and Mary MOWER.


Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Harry MADSEN, Mapleton, Sam MADSEN, Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Shanna CHRISTENSEN, Moroni, Mrs. Anna Mae WOOD, Kearns; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


He is survived by one brother and three sisters, Mrs. Ina ANDERSON, Mrs. Clea YOUNG, Mrs. Laura WOODVINE and Bennett MADSEN, all of Mount Pleasant.


She is survived by four brothers and three sisters, Willis MOWER, Provo, Mrs. Rosella AMIE and Mrs. Amy CASTO, both of Salt Lake City, Peter MOWER, Woodruff, Rich County; Mrs. Dora CHRISTIANSEN, Pleasant Grove, Lee MOWER and Ted MOWER, both of Fairview.


Friends may call at Ursenbach Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery.
