Born in Monroe County,KY, a son of Alexander and Mary Polly Cooper. He married Rachel Walker on April 23, 1831 in Clay County, Il, a daughter of George R. and Rebecca Starr Hamer Walker. Was appointed County Judge in Coles County, IL. In 1836 Sylvester and Rachel went to Milwaukee where he was appointed Milwaukee County probate judge. He died in Maquoketa, Jackson, IA. Age 42 years, 1 month and 6 days.
