"Funeral services for Sylvester Jackson, 83, of Jefferson, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shady Grove Church Of Christ. Burial followed in Gethsamane Core Cemetery. Arrangements were by Atlanta Funeral Home.
Mr. Jackson died at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday in Atlanta, Texas. He was born January 31, 1897. He had lived in Jefferson for about 60 years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He belonged to Shady Grove Church Of Christ, and he was a former member of Gethsamane Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jackson, of Jefferson; four sons, Sylvester Jackson Jr., of LaPorte, and Thomas Jackson, of Maywood, Illinois, and L.C. Jackson, of Palmdale, California, and Booker T. Mathis, of New Orleans, Louisiana; six daughters, Charles Etta Jefferson, Vernell Myles and Bertha Smith, all of Jefferson, and Irma Jean Jacquot, Lulu Stigers and Queen Esther Poole, all of Houston; 12 stepchildren; three brothers; two sisters; and many other relatives and friends."
