In 1862, Alanson met Mary Elizabeth Kennedy in October at her fathers house and they were married on Christmas Day in LaGrande, Baker Co., OR. After their marriage they made a return trip to ID as Alanson was hauling freight to the mining areas and on into Boise and it was there that their first child was born. On their return, they settled in Walla Walla, where he purchased land from his father-in-law. In 1867 they moved to Lewis Co., WA where they took a homestead, farmed and raised a family of 9 children.
Mary Elizabeth died in 1895 and Alanson in 1907. They are buried in the Masonic section of the Winlock Cemetery.
