He was born in Ticonderoga, on April 13, 1932, the son of Kenneth W. and Mae (McLaughlin) Towne.
He had been a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga and was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School, class of 1950.
He was employed as a mechanic for his family's business, the former Towne's Garage on Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga, for more than 30 years.
He also worked for many years for Bill Hogle's Bus Service and Progressive Transportation of Ticonderoga.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Towne was a member of the American Legion Post 224 of Ticonderoga and was a past Essex County commander. He was also a member, of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 146 of Ticonderoga.
