First Lieutenant Bachrach was an air-ground controller with the 49th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division.

On April 20, 1951, while flying in a AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft, it crashed near Kaochang-ni, killing Lieut. Bachrach and his pilot, Lieut. Roger Wallis.
