He descends from John Brooke who came to America in 1692, granted 1500 acres of land by William Penn. Two sons of John were Matthew and James Brooke. Son Matthew had a son Matthew who had a son Thomas Rees Brooke, father of this memorial.
Maj William Brooke served in a Reading unit during the second war with England, 1812. He owned several farms and lived a quiet life. He married Martha Rutter and their children were the Gen John R Brooke and Mary Catharine who married William Hopkins and Caroline who married Samuel Campbell
