He married Sarah Ann Smythe in 1900 and they began their family. They had three sons and a daughter. In 1921, they sold the family farm in Belfast to his brother James who had returned from the west (where he buried his wife, and where his children remained). Robbie and Annie moved to Roxborough with their family. They continued with their custom threshing business, as well as farming.
Robbie and Annie became well-respected members of the community quickly, and he even served as Santa Claus at school Christmas concerts! Robbie enjoyed playing the fiddle. He was a strong man who enjoyed farming and kept detailed ledgers for his farm.
Robbie died just a few days after his wife's funeral, and family has always said it was of a broken heart. They had been married for 54 years. Their grandchildren who lived right next door missed them greatly, as did son Harold who farmed with them.
