A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Zeller Chapel of the Roses for Alex Leo Pfannenstiel, who died March 31 at age 86.

Mr. Pfannenstiel was born April 5, 1913, in Hays, Kan.

He moved to Portland in 1937, and was a heavy-equipment operator for the Oregon shipyards during World War II. He worked for Kuckenberg Construction for more than 25 years and then for Copenhagen Construction until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.

In 1933, he married Caroline Dinges; she died in 1998.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry Stiel, Donald Pfannenstiel, and Delane Pfannenstiel; daughter, Carole Steelman; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Catholic Charities.
