Edward was the son of William Harrison and Margaret Susan (Creech) Sproles and the husband of Mary Vernon (Dix) Sproles whom he married on 10 May 1941. Ed met Mary when he worked for the TVA in Decatur, Alabama. He later worked for the U.S. Weather Bureau. He had two sisters (Eura Estelle and Bertha) and four brothers ( Coscie, Earl, Bascom Blakely, and Holland S. Sproles) who lived to adulthood. He shares a common headstone with his wife, Mary. At his death, Edward was survived by his wife Mary and their son Edward S. Sproles, Jr.
