Leonard H. Weist, 93, Dodgeville, formerly of Spring Green, died Monday, July 9, 2001 at the Medical Care Facility in Dodgeville. He was born January 30, 1908 in Ridgeway Township, a son of the late John A. and Louisa (Rieder) Wiest. He worked as an electrician for Robson Electric in Spring Green and H & H Electric in Madison until reitement. Len enlisted in the army on June 5, 1941. Leonard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he was a mortar gunner in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was also awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Spring Green American Legion Post #253.
Survivors include his sister, Leone Shea, Dodgeville; his brothers, John H. (Margaret) Wiest, Dodgeville and Alfred Wiest, Plain; two step-daughters, Mary Meister, Madison and Karen (Jerry) Sprenger, Dothan, Alabama; step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mary Wagner. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Frances; his brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Helen Yager and Grace Robson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Father Henry Kalscheuer will officiate with burial in Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. The McGinley-Gorgen Funeral Home in Dodgeville is assisting the family.
