Edna Ruth Abbott, 93, of Hannibal, MO, formerly of the Danville, MO, area, died on Friday, January 09, 2015, at the Beth Haven Care Center in Hannibal, MO.

Edna Ruth Abbott was born November 24, 1921 to Joseph Edwards and Letha Stokes Edwards. She graduated from Tuscumbia High School and later went to secretarial school and photography school. On June 29, 1942 she married Willis Jackson Abbott in New Orleans. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1982.

Ruth worked at Famous Barr in St. Louis, MO, taking portrait pictures until around 1956 when they moved to the Montgomery County area. She loved to sew, knit, quilt, garden and travel. Ruth also loved to visit with all her family and her many friends. When her health started to decline she moved to Beth Haven Care Center in Hannibal, MO, where she resided nine and a half years.

Ruth is survived by three children: Joseph O. Abbott; Jay W. Abbott; and Kay McDonald and husband, Dennis; eight grandchildren: Joseph W. Abbott; Charles W. Abbott; Chauncy W. Abbott, Jaclyn Schmidt, Teri Brown, Tricia McKinley, Keely McDonald, and Cody McDonald; and six great-grandchildren: Kiersten Schmidt, Kaytlin McKinley, Braden Cardwell, Jayson McKinley, Sylas Brown, and Liam Ellis. Also surviving are two brothers: Earl Edwards and Gene Edwards and wife, Helen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Letha Stokes Edwards; her husband, Willis Jackson Abbott; one still born son; and one sister: Lois King and husband, Glen.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. The Reverend Robert Bixler officiated and interment was in the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City, MO. Visitation was held from Noon until the time of service on Tuesday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO. Casketbearers included Charles Abbott, Chauncy Abbott, Dennis McDonald, Jay McKinley, Steve Meyer and Tim King.
