Henry Glenn was unmarried. His schooling was limited, but his career was extremely interesting. It is said that at the early age of 12 years, he helped his father to issue a weekly newspaper.
Henry had a great interest in the military and his father had correspondence with Stephen A. Douglas to try and secure a place at West Point for him. However, this was not to be due to the untimely death of R.A. Glenn and Stephen A. Douglas. Henry's thirst for the military was fulfilled with his enlistment in 1864 in the 16th Illinois Infantry, Company E.
In 1889 he drifted to Wichita, Kansas and when the Cherokee strip was opened in 1892, he and his brother, Fred, made the run and settled on claims in what is now Grant Co. OK. Later, he returned to Mt. Sterling, Illinois, to his sister, Mary, for help with a diseased hand. With her help and medical skill, he was cured but could never hold a pen or pencil with that hand and learned to write with the other.
