Matthew Mark LaForest (Sloan), 31, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Bay City MI was born on June 25, 1983 and passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. Matthew was united in marriage to Alisha Robbins on July 21, 2012 and she survives him, along with their three beautiful children, Ross, Areyannas and Exadeo. Also surviving are his parents, Calvin LaForest, Martha Martinez (Gary) Sloan; sister, Crystal Sloan and her boyfriend, Kyle Hanshaw, along with their son, Brayden Hanshaw; father-in-law, Consesor “Junior” Ruiz; mother-in-law, Laura Weymouth; brothers-in-law, Chase Robbins and Edbie Ruiz; maternal grandmother, Jennie Martinez; paternal grandfather, Raymond LaForest; aunts and uncles, Anatolio Martinez, Rosie Mendoza, Ruby (Pedro) Ybanez, Manuel (Reyes) Martinez, Clara (Priscillano) Martinez, Gale (Kim) Sloan Mielens, James Sloan, Linda and Jackie Brandhurst, Theresa LaForest, Jerry LaForest, Greg (LeeAnn) LaForest, John (Barb) LaForest, Jesse (Kim) LaForest, Debbie and Lynn Harper, Gina LaForest; Godparents, Rosie Mendoza and Duane Lupcke; cousins, Gregory Martinez and Jeremy LaForest, along with many other cousins and his special friends, Cat Silva, Nicole Budnik, Rick Badour, John Jezowski and Gilbert Mancillas. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Conception Martinez, Pauline Wood LaForest Turner, Kenneth and Aliene Sloan; uncles, Stephen J. Sloan, Johnnie, Raymond and Tommy Martinez and his cousin, Michael Martinez. Matthew was a graduate of Bay City Central High School and was formerly employed at Younkers in the Bay City Mall. Matthew had an entrepreneurial spirit and a dream of inventing. He also enjoyed music (in particular, Estupido Romantico by Mazz), carpentry, antiquing and estate sales, along with the many annual family camping trips. His great sense of humor, along with his love for his children will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come. Matthew's family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 12:00 Noon until the time of his 6:00 PM Funeral Ceremony at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd., Hampton Twp. Kathy Madziar of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish will officiate with cremation to follow. Memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
