The 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers).

Son of William Samuel Bishop and Violet Jessie Bishop.

He was accidentally shot in Athenry Barracks, when a colleague went to empty the rifle which Bishop had put down. He removed four bullets, and thought that the gun was empty. when he pulled the trigger to confirm it was empty, a round was discharged which hit Bishop in the lower face.
He died from his injuries some days later.

He was probably one of "The Black and Tans".

Robert F. Bishop, aged 24, unmarried, a Soldier, died at Galway on 6 May 1920.
The cause of death was Shock and Haemorrhage caused by a Bullet Wound in the Jaw, Accidental.
His death was registered on 18 June 1920, on foot of information received from John S. Conroy, Coroner for Western Division of the County of Galway, 4 St. Francis Street, Galway.
