Lewis E. Hammitt, 79, of 401 W. Allen St., died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the All American Nursing Center. He was born in Farmington, the son of Charles W. and Kate Burkridge Hammitt. At the time of his retirement from the Prudential Life Insurance Co., he was superintendent of the company. Mr. Hammitt was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Marye; one son, Frank L. of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Drydon of Peoria; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Maffett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
