Phillip Hunter "Phil" Batts Sr was born on October 8, 1927 in Henrietta, Tennessee, the son of Homer Batts and Mace (Hunter) Batts.

Serving his country in the US Air Force and the US Navy, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Later, he worked for and retired from the Corps of Engineers and enjoyed the outdoors.
Phil was 87 years old and a resident of Ashland City when he passed away at home on January 11, 2015.
Preceded in death by his parents; his sons Brett Batts, Phillip H Batts Jr and James Timothy Vanatta, and by his sisters Jewel Shearron and Lucy Allen, he is survived by his wife; a married son; five daughters and two sons-in-law; two sisters; a nephew; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Boyd Funeral Home, and burial was in Batts Cemetery in Henrietta.
