Alma was born in on April 13, 1920 in Walshville, IL to Elmer and Etta (Newcomb) Hughes. She was married to Floyd Hartford in Valentine, NE on July 30, 1939. They made their home in Bonesteel, SD.
In 1957 they relocated to Rapid City where she has since resided. She worked with her husband at their bakery in Bonesteel for many years and also at Ray’s Bakery in Rapid City for a while.
She was a member of South Maple United Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, rock hunting, fishing and hunting with her family.
She also had quite a collection of angels. Children always held a special place in Alma’s heart. She taught Sunday School for many years at South Maple United Methodist Church.
Alma is survived by her son granddaughter,Jan , grandson, Dean , and great-grandson Mark Hartford, Rapid City, sister, Agnes and brother, Stanley
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, 3 sisters, Margaret, Verna, Velma, 6 brothers, Lyle, Calvin, Wilbur, Merle, Dale, Jack and Melvin and sister in Law, Dorothy Hughes.
Funeral services are Friday, January 16, at 11am at South Maple United Methodist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
