Mother Willie Mae Flowers, "Mother" was born September 12, 1912 in Leake County, Carthage, Mississippi to Velmond and Cora Sanders. At an early age, Mother Flowers confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and dedicated her life to Christ. She united with Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and later Concord Baptist Church. As a young Lady, God allowed the paths of Mr. Ivory Flowers and Miss Willie Mae Sanders to cross. Shortly thereafter, they were united in Holy Matrimony, and God blessed their union with ten beautiful, healthy children. Being lead by the Holy Spirit, in 1955 "Mother" relocated with her family to Flint, MI, seeking a better life for her children. Hard work was no stranger to Mother Flowers. To help support her family, She worked as a cook and housekeeper. Mother Flowers united with Golden Leaf Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.A. Vaughn and later, Pastor Earl Thigpen, faithfully serving in the Choir, Nurses Guild, Usher Board and Missionary Society. It was in 1968 that Mother Flowers proudly joined her first-born son, James, as he answered the Lord's call to Pastor North Star Baptist Church. She worked faithfully with him, serving on the Mother's Board and Kitchen Committee. The third Sunday in December of 1985, God allowed "Mother" to witness her third-born son, Fred, as he answered the Lord's call. God placed him the youngest Pastor of Golden Leaf Baptist Church in the church?s 67-year-old history. God blessed her to be the only mother in Flint to have two sons serving as pastors at the same time. She was truly greatful and gave God all the glory. Many souls were inspired and lead to Christ by Mother Flowers. Mother Flowers's hands were anointed by God as she ministered to abused, sick, crack babies as a volunteer foster-grandmother. Happy Elephant and the March of Dimes were also blessed from her volunteer services. Her life was dedicated to helping others. "Mother" dearly loved her family and expressed much joy when she was in their presence. She especially loved her grands, greats and great-greats. She often conveyed how so very proud she was of them, they were the joy of her life.

In God's care, Mother Willie Mae Flowers, leaves her children: Evon (Lewis) Harper, Dr. James O. (Linda) Flowers, Sr., Robert Flowers, Bernice Curtis, special son-in-law, Dea. Paul Curtis, Pastor Frederick L. (Donna) Flowers, Sr., Joann (Robert) Derricks, Joyce M. Nelson (Fiancé Bennie Bradshaw); sister, Oda Gilmore; 34 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and dear friends including, Lillie Thomas, Howard and Alberta Crowder.
