Walter J. Boldig, 77, of Palm Desert, CA. entered his eternal home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2003.

He was born in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan Feb. 8, 1926 and lived in Claremont for over 50 years, retiring to Palm Desert a few years ago.

He served in the US Navy in WWII.

He received his Bachelors degree in Accounting from Pomona College in 1950. He was the Charter President of the Claremont Jaycees.

He was a local restaurateur, having co-founded Walter's Coffee Shop in Claremont in 1958, which still bears his name, followed by Walter's in Ontario, The Royal Tahitian in Ontario, the Casa de Mayo in Rancho Cucamonga, and The Barrister in Pomona. He was later Vice President of the Denny's Restaurant chain.

He then entered the law field, administering the Law Office of Herbert Hafif, and subsequently the Shernoff, Bidart & Darras law firm, from which he retired in 1997.

Walter's sobriety led him to help develop and expand one of the most successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities in San Bernardino County, Cedar House in Bloomington. He served on their Board of Directors for 16 years. Walter also served on the Board of Directors for the Sam & Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts.

In recent years he was a member of the Rock Christian Fellowship of Thousand Palms, CA.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Boldig of Palm Desert; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jim Woods of San Dimas; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kelley Boldig of Claremont; step-son, John Villareal of Palm Desert and step-son and wife, Jim and Autumn Villareal of Palmdale.

He is also survived by the mother of his children, Margaret (Miggs) Boldig of Claremont; his sister, Alice Schert of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Charles Payment of Orland, FL.; his grandchildren, T.J. Woods, Christopher, Collin and Chandler Boldig, Zachary Boren, Ashley, Samantha, Skyler and Elishah Villareal; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the Hafif Estate, 4930 Live Oak Canyon Rd, La Verne, CA 91750.

Walter will be greatly missed by all whose heart he touched. The family has asked in lieu of flowers contributions be made in memory of Walter to Cedar House, 18162 Santa Ana Ave., Bloomington, CA 92316, or Rock Christian Fellowship, 72-096 Dunham Way, Thousand Palms, CA 92276. Wiefel & Sons of Palm Springs is in charge of arrangements.
