OBITUARY:
The Idaho Statesman, Nov. 7, 2003 Local P.5
George H. Steele
George H. Steele at the age of. 101, died peacefully at his home in Nampa on November 3, 2003. George was born on November 20, 1901 in Telluride, Colorado, the youngest child of John Alvin and Elizabeth Catherine (Smith) Steele.

He spent his early years growing up in the Midwest with his brothers, Earl, Jesse, Ray Vern, and [sister] Beatrice. Many stories have been told of the 25 years he served as a Chief Machinist in the US Navy during World Wars I and II. He spent memorable years in Hawaii and So. California, where he worked for the City of Los Angeles.

His retirement brought him to the Ola/Sweet area where he resided for 30 years. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweet where he earned the name "Tootsie Roll" man. George had a great love for his family and spent many hours doing genealogy. His memory remained sharp, his handshake strong and he was a delight to all. He had a great love of travel and was never happier than when he was visiting old haunts. He spent the last 10 years of his life in Nampa with his niece, Winnie (Steele) Weber and her family.

He is survived by his daughters Ethel Morgan of Marysville, WA and Barbara Higley (Don) of Big Bear, CA., daughter Wendy (Windle) Cimino of AZ, son George Windle (Carol) of Boise, ID and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great-grandchildren, as well, as many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing for family and friends will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Friday noon until 8:00 p.m. George will be laid to rest at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, in San Diego, CA. The family would like to thank Four Rivers for their caring service.
