A native Fresnan, she was born to Kachadoor and Anna Koligian, the third of four children. She grew up happily on the Koligian farm on Kearney Boulevard.
She attended Madison Elementary School, Central Union High School and graduated from Fresno State College with an Associates of Art Degree.
During World War II, she corresponded with a soldier by the name of Martin Berberian. When the war ended, they met, fell in love and eloped to Las Vegas in May of 1946.
Betty worked with Martin packing and doing the books during the early stages of his food packaging business.
Between 1948 an 1952, they were blessed with three children, Sandra Lee, Susan Ann and Martin, Jr. She then became a full-time mother and homemaker.
Betty was an extremely loving and very generous individual. She always gave of herself to family and friends.
Her children were all married and she was again blessed with six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They were the light of her life.
She was an active member of the Daughters of Vartan, Saint Paul's Armenian Church, the AGBU, and a private Social Stock Club.
Her last years were spent enjoying her family and friends. Her infectious smile and laughter will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Martin; and her brothers Deran and Ara.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Janigian and her husband Gerald and their children Dena, Darren and Carol and great-grandson Remy; her daughter, Susan Karkazian and her husband George and their children Nyrie and Talene; and her son, Martin, Jr. and his daughter Nichole.
She is also survived by her sister, Mary Melikian Balmat and her husband Harold; sisters-in-law, Mimi and Roberta Koligian; and a great number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Armenian Cathedral in Fresno on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Ararat Cemetery in Fresno.
