Walter Addison Dead; Annie Faxon Survivor

Walter Charles Addison, 79, Lewiston resident for almost 60 years, and steward on the steamer Annie Faxon when it blew up on the lower Snake River Aug. 14, 1893, with a loss of life and many crew injured, died at 6:05 last night at St. Joseph's Hospital. He underwent an operation for a double hernia on July 16.

Mr. Addison was born in Lowell, Ind. Nov 16, 1866, the son of Mr. John Addison and Rachel (Hall) Addison.

Coming west he located in Lewiston and his river service started soon thereafter. He served as a steward on different steamers plying the Snake River between Lewiston and Riparia. He was assigned to the ill-fated Annie Faxon but a short time before she went down.

He married Laura K. Benson, 18 Aug 1896, in Nez Perce County, ID.

Quitting the river he was employed as a steward at the old Raymond house and then for several years was steward of the old Elks Club. For fifteen years he operated a taxi service with a stand at 5th and Main streets, retiring five years ago.

Mr. Addison, who resided at 530 Fifth Avenue, had been in failing health for a few years. He had suffered a stroke by obviously recovered from its effects.

He married Mrs. Mildred White at Spokane on June 1, 1924.

Survivors include his wife, his brother, Roy Addison, Pacific Palisades, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Grahm, Mrs. Louise Grant, and Mrs. Maud Vincent, all of Los Angeles; Mrs. Cora Jacobs, San Fransisco, and his niece, Mrs. Lulu Kirby Herres, Kendrick.

The body is at Vassar-Rawls Chapel with funeral arrangements pending.
