A native of Pisgah Forest, he was the son the late Herman O. and Nettie Corn Parker. He was a 1959 graduate of Clemson University. Having attended college on a football scholarship, he remained an avid, lifelong Tiger fan. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict as a military policeman. He carried his law enforcement service to Buncombe County, where he was an Auxiliary Deputy for 30 plus years – a familiar face at Enka High sporting events. He began his career of teaching in Seneca, South Carolina where he taught for 3 years before his love of the mountains brought him home. He then taught Vocational Agriculture at Enka High for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was a dedicated member of Enka Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in a number of capacities from property committee to youth ministries.
Parker was survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ann Parris Parker, a son, Michael Parker of Candler, a daughter, Lynn Ferguson of Enka, and a brother, Fred Parker of Pisgah Forest. He was also survived by 5 grandchildren, Russell and Reva Ferguson, Jeremy, Emily and Justin Parker, and 2 great grandchildren, Haley and Kaden Ferguson. Lastly, he was survived by a countless number of former Enka High students whose lives have been deeply influenced by his commitment to education.
Funeral Services were held at Mount Moriah Wesleyan Church, 1 Fairmont Rd, in Candler on Saturday April 20 at 4pm with a life memorial fellowship immediately following. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian assisted the Parker family.
