Lill PATERSON was the caregiver of the family. When her eldest brother Ken's wife died in 1914, leaving three young children, she lived with the family at Whitechurch to help care for them. When her youngest brother Fred's wife passed on in 1953, she moved to keep house for him in declining health, until his death five years later. She is remembered fondly by her great-nieces and nephews as a lady with a dry sense of humour, and a pocketful of peppermints.
