Mary Laird, age 90, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa after an extended illness. Mary Virginia Laird was born October 25, 1914 in Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Andrew and Carrie (Johnson) Harding. Mary was raised in Elliott and became a member of the Elliott Church of Christ at the age of 15. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1931. She later attended Teachers Training in Cedar Falls, Iowa receiving a teaching certificate. Mary taught country school for 3 years before being united in marriage to Fred Carson in 1940. She later was united in marriage to Orville K. Laird on December 19, 1942 in South Mills, North Carolina. They lived their entire married life in Elliott, Iowa where Mary worked for the United States Postal service for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at the Elliott Church of Christ, the Research Club, and the MD Pinochle Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Orville Laird on May 29, 2001; 3 sisters: Pearl Buckner, Marie Wilson, and Nina Casey; and infant great granddaughter: Jade Sierra.

Survivors include her 2 daughters: Sue Woods of Vancouver, Washington; and Nancy Moss of Elliott, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Leslie Liberato and husband Carl of Mareno Valley, California; Gary Woods of Fremont, California; James Woods and wife Tracy of Camas, Washington; Carrie Deam and husband Chris of Osceola, Iowa; and Mike Moss and wife Heather of Atlantic, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren: Diana, Alex, Jenny, Ashley, Kelsey, Anna 1, Anna 2, and Kobe; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Griswold, Iowa Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Hamilton officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, December 17, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ.
