Services for Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Langston, 64, beloved husband and daddy, of Gainesville, Texas, were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at First Baptist Church in Gainesville, with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating.
Mr. Langston was born on November 9, 1938, in Thackerville, the son of E.H. and Luna Langston. He died Friday, September 19, 2003, at Saint John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
He was reared in Thackerville and graduated from Thackerville High School. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors of Science in education, a Masters of Science in education and a Masters in School Administration. He loved learning and life. He spent 33 years of his life in public education. Mr. Langston began his teaching career in Gobernador, New Mexico where he taught for six years. After that, he spent ten years as elementary principal and varsity girls basketball coach at Valley View ISD, fifteen years as elementary principal for Callisburg ISD at the Rad Ware Campus and two years as elementary principal at Thackerville public schools. He and Betty Southard were married on July 3, 1959, in Hood, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Mr. Langston was tragically taken, and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He touched the lives of all who knew him, whether he was known as Son, Brother, Husband, Daddy, Principal, Coach, Teacher, or Pee Paw. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Betty Langston of Gainesville; his parents, E.H. and Luna Langston of Marietta; mother-in-law, Ruth Southard of Gainesville; one son, Stephen Wayne Langston and wife, Rita of Clarksville, Georgia; one daughter, Shellie Erwin and husband, Shane of Krum, Texas; six grandchildren, Amella Langston of Clarksville, Cody and Brandi Brule of Krum, Josh, Julianne and Sawyer Langston of Dothan, Alabama; five step-grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter; two brothers, Dutch Langston and Jim Langston of Thackerville; two sisters, Doris Ann Scivally of Gainesville and Barbara Hunt of Thackerville; an aunt and uncle, as well as several nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Dale Scivally, Jeff Langston, Eddie Langston, Micah Hunt, Alan Southard, Rod Southard, Wayne Southard and Todd Southard.
Interment was in New Hope Cemetery at Mountain Springs, Texas, under the direction of Clement-Keel Funeral Home of Gainesville.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Krum ISD Libraries, 809 E. McCart, Krum, Texas 76249.
