Birdie Nola (Porter) Cotton, 91, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2017 while at Warr Acres Nursing Center in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. She was born on February 14, 1926 in Windom, Fannin County, Texas to Floyd Otis Porter and Jewel Princes Kizer.

She graduated from Bartley-Woods School District in 1943. She then attended Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) from 1944 to 1946 where she met her husband, Rev. Clarence Edward Cotton. They married on January 23, 1946.

She was a homemaker and foster mother for underprivileged children. Clarence and Birdie fostered one child, Cindi, for three years before Cindi was taken out of the foster system and adopted. Birdie was a loving and devoted minister's wife until 1951 when her husband had to retire because of Parkinson's disease.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother James Weldon Porter, sister Bonita Marlene Porter and daughter Birdie Ruth Long. Survivors include her two sons, Lt Col (Retired) Clarence Edward Cotton, Jr. M.D. and wife Joellyn of Las Vegas, Nevada; David Leon Cotton and wife Carol of Merced, California; three grandchildren Candice (Cotton) Burkett and husband Daniel of Marlow, Oklahoma; Craig Long and wife Angi of Claremore, Oklahoma; and Brent Long and wife Bobbi of Moore, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind five great grandchildren, Jackson Long, Johnson Long, Grant Long, Johnathan Burkett, and Elizabeth Burkett.

She also leaves a host of friends including her caretaker Kathryn Bowens. Birdie was the last of the original residents of Southern Plaza Retirement Community.

Viewing will be Sunday, November 26, 2017 with family present from 12p-4p at Guardian West Funeral Home. Services will be 10am Monday, November 27, 2017 at Guardian West Funeral Home. A private family interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Salvation Army Hometown Endowment, 1001 N Pennsylvania Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73107.
