WILLIAMSBURG -- Mrs. Betty Lucille "Lucy" Sheffer, age 79, of Williamsburg, passed away at 8:56 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Reid Hospital.
Born April 28, 1926, in Aberdeen, Md., she was the daughter of William Edward and Edith (Gregg) Baker Preston.
She was a 1945 graduate of Aberdeen High School.
She was united in marriage to Robert D. Sheffer on Nov. 27, 1953, a union that was blessed with one son, Drew.
Mrs. Sheffer had lived in the Williamsburg community since 1969. She was formerly employed at Jim Fisher's Fine Foods in Fountain City. She later drove the special needs bus for the Northeastern Wayne School Corp., a job she enjoyed until retirement in 1992.
Mrs. Sheffer was a member of the Williamsburg Friends Church. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and watching old movies.
Mrs. Sheffer will be missed by her husband, Robert D. "Bob" Sheffer of Williamsburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Larinda Sheffer of Richmond; one grandson, Brandon Sheffer and his wife Beth of Ingalls, Ind.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Puz of New Castle, Pa., and Elaine Goodby of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Kenneth Preston of Richwood, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sheffer was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Guy; and one brother, Ken Baker.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside ceremony conducted by Rev. Phil Baisley at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Earlham Cemetery. A pitch-in dinner in honor of and in memory of Lucy will be shared at the Williamsburg Friends Church following the ceremony.
