Gene D. Runyon, 94, of Elmwood passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his residence. He was born on October 25, 1921, in Knox County, IL, to Harry and Alma (Lindsey) Runyon. He began his working career with his father and local farmers. Gene married Betty Sandall on January 1, 1940, in Iowa City. She passed away in 2004. He is survived by five children, Dale (Roseann) Runyon, Patricia (late Gary) Fincham, Terry Runyon, Richard Runyon and Trudy (Ken) Howard; one sister, Agnes Snyder. Gene was preceded in death by his wife; three sons, Duane Runyon, Charles Runyon and Michael Runyon; three daughters, Janice Reicheneker, Nancy Reicheneker and Mary Carroll; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Runyon; four sisters, Mary Bantz, Phyllis Bock, Betty King and Ruth Aiello; and one grandchild, Paul Reicheneker. Gene joined the Navy in 1944. After being honorably discharged in November of 1945, he began working at Caterpillar Tractor, where he retired with 44 years of service.
Burial will be at the Elmwood Township Cemetery.
