Herman Lee Dill, 87, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 22, 1927, at Centerville, the son of Mike and Floye Marie (Smith) Dill.

He was a 1946 graduate of Lyons High School. A member of Countryside Baptist Church, he served as moderator from 2010 through 2014 and had served as a deacon most of his adult life. Herman served in Japan with the U.S. Army and had gone to Washington, D.C., on the Honor Flight in 2012. He was a docent at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, had managed for Orscheln’s in Pratt, Wellington and Hutchinson, retiring in 1993, but continued working part-time until 2007.

On Oct. 12, 1947, he married Phyllis Dean Wright in Sterling. She died Nov. 5, 2004. Then on June 14, 2005, he married Dorothy Evelyn Showalter in Hutchinson. She survives. Also surviving is: his god-daughter, Loreta Sneath of Topeka; and twin stepdaughters, Christine Hover, and Cynthia (Richard) Brice-Nash, both of North Huntingdon, Pa, two brothers, Harry (Lucille) of Marietta, Okla., Kenny of Casper, Wyoming and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dane B. Dill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Ron Kyker presiding. Burial with military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary with family present from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Countryside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
