Frederick was son of A. Haywood and Mary Henderson Cary, He was a graduate of Fort Edward High School and the Agricultural College in Cobleskill. He was self-employed as owner and operator of Lenworb Farm in Johnstown for 43 years retiring in 1981. Fred was a 10 year member of the Brown-Swiss Association. He was a charter member of the Town of Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department helping to organize the department in 1948. He served as its chief from 1964 to 1986. He was honored and named Montgomery County Fireman of the Year in 1981.
Survivors include his wife former Helen Brownell whom he married in 1938; three sons, Francis, Harold, and Donald; two daughters, Barbara and Dawn; four sisters, Lucille, Eloise, Mary Alice, and Marcia; four brothers, George, Richard, William, and Carius. 11 Grandchildren; eight Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
